Artist Profile & Summary of Public Exhibitions - Karen Foley b. January 31st 1959
Born and raised in Townsville, Nth Queensland Australia. Karen began painting at a young age and in recognition of her talent made a career as a respected artist. Popularity of her art led to the opening of her gallery/studio in the city mall in 2005 and in Idalia in 2010. Her most recent gallery The Stack, aptly named after the nearby Heritage listed landmark chimney Stack, displays a small historical display of the area, recognising local history and local art.
Karen has
developed a trademark in painting her favourite subject ‘flowers’ and
her art is easily recognized.
In celebrating year 2000 prints of her work were released by a leading
Australian publisher who could see huge benefits in marketing her as a
floral artist, typifying the tropical beauty of richly coloured flowers.
One
subject matter, frangipani,
and
subsequent signature work of
hers,
became the best selling print in Australia for several consecutive
years, titled ‘Spring’. While she has a traditional style and technique,
she enjoys coordinating colour and mood to develop the subject, creating
an ambience of elegance.
To date, over 200 of Karen’s
paintings have been reproduced in print and distributed worldwide.
While the prints are widely available Karen
takes great pride and joy in personally handing over the original
paintings by dealing direct with her customers.
